On 19 December 1945 John W. Verbist EM2c won the contest for naming the USS Kearsarge CV-33 publication KEARSAGA. About 90 names had been submitted. Some suggestions were Flattopics, Cee Vee, Double Three, K Rations, and Third Sarge. John was given a Parker ‘51’ pen and pencil set as his prize. KEARSAGA was published on a weekly basis for, by and about the crew of the Kearsarge.
